What we are learning this week:
Literacy:
This week students are continuing our Unit 1 on Poetry! On Tuesday a handout will be sent home in Friday folders explaining the EL curriculum (please let me know if you need another copy!). We are close reading the book Love That Dog by Sharon Creech and examing the poems featured in the text. Our focus this week is on identifying the theme of different poems and being able to select evidence in the text to support the theme. Students have started creating their Vocabulary notebooks in class that they will use throughout the year to update with Academic Vocabulary and Domain-Specific Vocabulary as we read different genres of text.
Math:
This week students are working on Unit 2: Explore Multiplicative Comparison, Area and Perimeter, Factors, and Multiples. In this unit, students will expand their understanding of multiplication to include multiplicative comparison. Students will continue to develop the concept of area based on the array model, using that model to explore factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers. This leads into an exploration of both area and perimeter, including fixed areas and fixed perimeters, and formulating conclusions about the relationship between area and perimeter. * Math Homework : Monday -Thursday students bring home a Math Handout for homework in their Green (Go Home) Folder.
